Personal and Political. [Newspaper Article] — Bombala Times and Manaro and Coast Districts General Advertiser — 26 May 1899

Personal and Political. The Anti Bilites have invited Mr. Hig gins of Victoria to come over and speak against the Bill ; the invitation was sent some time ago and nothing has since been heard of it. Ashton spoke for two hours and forty minutes at Goulburn ; judging by the correspondence in the papers he did not devoto himself sufficiently fully to ex plaining his position. Many columns have been written about the break up of the labour party. The simple explanation is that all thoBe mem bers — Sleath, Ferguson etc.— whose elect orates went t ang for the Bill, are in fav our of it now. Francis Abigail appeared in publio it the head of a deputation of shopkeepers to tho Postmaster General last week. E. G. Wade, tho present Solicitor Gen eral. -won a scholarship at the Kings School which gave him three years at Ox ford ; he was also a great footballer in his younger days. The result of federation is assured ; Mr. Charter is remaining in Sydney. Some time ago a petition against the Bill...
