In their h'nir of despair they appealed to the banks for help. The appeal fell on, dead ears.- The verdict of the bank was short and peremptory. S*id they : 'We will grant no terms.' Canowindra Mems. ? .*_ ? ? PROM OUR CORRESPONDENT. The entertainment in the School of Arts on Saturday evening, in aid of the recently formed poor relief fund, by the Silver Cre scent Minstrels, was a great .success. The hall was crowded, many being unable to obtain admission, and the amount realised exceeded £10. The programme was varied, consisting of minstrelsy and character de lineation. The songs rendered by Messrs. h,. Wallace and bid Barber and Misses Louisa and Eliza Armstrong were, all en coied, and Mr. McDonald was also called on for an encore. Miss M. Markham and Miss L. Armstrong played the accompaniments with every satisfaction. The concert passed off without a hitch, and was well appreciated by all present. Mr. W. W. White proposed a vote of thanks to the performers, which was carried enthusiastically, and was re sponded to by Mr. Wallace, stage manager..
