IN MEMORIAM. SAVAGE.-In sad and loving memory of my dear husband and our dear father, James Savage, who was killed at Molesworth, on 20th Novewter, 1907. R.I.P. Ah! little we thought when he bade us   goodbye.   That he left us for over, he left us to die; That alone in this world his loss we would mourn, That it would he his poor lifeless form would return. Inserted by his loving wife and children, John, Bridget. Margaret.

Boxing Day Sports. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 11 December 1908

Boxing Day Sports. It appears that the executive of the Scottish tJUion will not agree to Alexan'ra holding sports oil above clay. What next It to pleasing to know that the committee of the local sports have been pro.uised a bic entry for the various Scottish events, more than if the sports were managed under the auspices of the Union. Another thing the committee will save money. .While we at all times uphold gooa,, clean sport, it appears ridicu ous that small country towns should pay for the privilege of using tihe name of Union and be dictated to in'the bargain. • We prediet a large attendance at the Boxing Day Caledonian gathering and a big finallclal success. Alexandra Shire Council. ANNUAL MEET1?G. Arthur J. Eckersall, Municipal Govern ment nuditur, reported us follow, :-1 have audited the accounts of your shire for the linanelia year ended 3:0th Septem ber, 1908, and to state that I have found the name to be correct, subject to dis allowance of expenditure, "Tourists and Anglers' Association, L10." The item in question is not provided for by statute. Abandoned Rlates.-In this connection, I might say that a minute of your council was uroduced to .me authorising.. the abandonment of. L53 14s,. and I found that only L4A8 6s had been actually written off. I am given to understand that the balance represented certain rates sub mitted for abandonment in error.' I have accepted the amount written off as correct, and think that under the circumstances, an amending minute shuild be passed by your .council to put .the eatter, in order. Interest on Rates has not been enforced in very many cases as demanded by the Local Government Act, and this ma...

NICTCEMRE NEC TIMIoE. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 18, 1908. IRRInaATION is once more receiving attention at the hands of those respon. sible for the administration of the Water Supply of the country. Re viewing past methods of irrigation works, the report of the Water Supply Commissioners, candidly informs us that ittis time to cry a halt and mark time .until, a now order of things is initiated. It is, of course, generally conceded that the appointment of Mr. Elwood Mead to report on irrigation in Victoria, its present and fatture prospects,. is the best step towards progress that has been taken so far. Mr Mead is an irrigation expert of the United States of Amuric. ; and he therefore is fully alhvu to all the latest details in connection with the watering of our dry areas. - Cho Commissioners, apparently guided by Mr Mead's report and their own experience, have come to the conclusion' that they have been pursuing a wrong course. At great cost supplies ,of water were made available to the farm...
