Diabolical Attempt to Explode Bulli Colliery. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 10 April 1889

Diabolical Attempt to Explode Bnlli Colliery. It will be scarcely necessary to remind oar readers that Saturday last was the racond anniversary of the terrible explosion at Bulli. No doubt the public at large will be horrified to learn that on Friday night what appears to have been a deliberate and di abolical attempt to bring about a similar catastrophe was attempted, but fortunately frustrated by the perfect system of under ground inspection which is carried on in the mine, lt appears that on the eveniug of Friday last, when the day shift bad knocked off the night over-man according to the usual custom went ou his tour of inspection previous to the night shift going on. During this inspection he found that two rn tin separation doors, directing the incom ing current of fresh air to certain divisions of workings, or districts as they are techni cally called, had been wilfully propped open by some person or persons. It would seem that those doors are hung in such a position as to be...

Religion and Amusements. [Newspaper Article] — The Moruya Times and South Coast Journal — 17 April 1889

Religion and Amusements. The Dean of Rochester presided over a numerously-attended meeting at 'Rochester ou the 8th instant., at which a lecture was delivered on ' The Church and Amusements,' by the Rev. W. H. Bullock, Chaplain of the Forces. The lecturer protested against add ivig any new commandments to the decalogue. There whs an inclination among many to do that. Three commandments wore added by what lie miglit call religious people — he would not sajr church people : ' Thou shalt not play cards,' 'Thou alialt not drink a fjas3 o[ wiiie^ .ijiou snail/ uuc uauce. Surely they had enough to do to keep the Ten. He saw no harm iu playing a game of cards, in enjoying Cod's god's good gift of tune, or in, the whirl of the dance. He would not allow any roan to interfere with the liberty of another man. Dean Hole en dorsed every word of the lecture. About the opening of museums and libraries on Sundays, he only . had cue opinion. He, would open them for one reason. If they cootd get peop...
