Mr A. H. Conroy In a life sketch of Mr A. H. Conroy (Liberal candidate for the Macqnarie Federal seat) just published we extract the following :— " Mr Conroy was always a great supporter of the late Sir Henry Parkes, and by that ami- , nent statesman was held in high eBteem. PRESENCE OF MIND. A WORD FOR THE HOUSE. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Eugowra News — 11 March 1910

PRESENCE OF MIND. A WORD KOU TiTR HOUSE. J.ord Stradbroke (remarks the Westminster Gazette") is to bo congratulated on having escaped with no more serious damage than bruises from one of the most awk ward positions in which, a rider can l find himself.' To be pinned, in li liar i rcw ditch under a horse is certainly j a serious predicament,. lor the pro i bU'm is how to effect a rescue with out increasing tl'ie danger. JTortun-' ! nUsly Lord Strad broke kept cool anrl quiet, giving instructions to the men who came to his assistance. It is j sidil that absence of liody is bettor' even than presence of-mind in some j circumstances,, and this was distinct-. ONIONS. THEIR HEALTH VALUE. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Eugowra News — 11 March 1910

ONIONS. THEUi HEALTH VALUE. The onion (remarks a. wyiter in " Popular Science Sittings.'') is not half appreciated. This humble bulb can be used for so many different dishes and in so many different .vtnys that'one often forgets its many excellent remedial qualities. Onions are an excellent cure for sleeplessness. They act as a kind of soporific if taken in small quantities before retiring. They .will be found to be more appetising if finely chop ped up. and laid between two thin waiters or biscuits. Katen in this way they are easily digested. The reason so many'' people complain of onions disagreeing with tliem is that' 1 hey eat too much' of the homely vegetable. • Onions are not intended to be eaten en .masse. When they , are taken raw they .should be thoroughly masticated, or, better still, the juice of the onion should bo pressed out, and taken on bread or as a-sauce. in this form the onion is splendid for liver com plaints. and;nets in consequence as a purilier■'■for a dark an...

MRS CRAIGIE. THE DREAM AND THE BUSINESS." [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Eugowra News — 11 March 1910

tm CRAICIE. I "THE DREAM AND THE EBUSINESS." I The/appreciations evoked by the un timely death o£ Mrs Craigie, writes : in the -"Daily Mail," have dis 'closed an interpretation; of her talent is almost unanimous. There is, in fact, beneath the. somewhat hard .intellec tuality of her work something of the visionary. - • These two qualities un doubtedly are her - chief characteristics, her strong' practical understanding and her emotional mysticism. In her .earlier work the latter, was not pronounced. "Some Emotions and a Moral" was sheer Intellectual glitter, the work of a very clever woman with a brain. But. slowly Mrs Craigie began to develop, and her evolution was interesting all .the '.way. ; ■ ■ ■ . " i She came under prime influences, and was more than ordinarily amenable to/ .them., For so intellectual a woman it was remarkable that she should have been so impressionable. She sat at the. feet of Mr Meredith, ot Mr Hardy, and of .Dis raeli. She drew from many, sources on her wa...

Local Topics. [Newspaper Article] — Canowindra Star and Eugowra News — 11 March 1910

Local Topics. The decision given by the Land Appeal Court in connection with a couple of local cases appears in another column. At the Orange stock sales last week Mr M Kyan, of Eugowrn, topped the market with a prime heavy bullock, for which he obtained £8 7s. Up to 9 a.ra. on Monday 85 points of rain were registered at the local post office. At Lockvtood 98 points were recorded. A meeting of the local branch of tho F and S Association will be held to-morrow nftomoon. There is plenty of evidence that Canowindra is forging ahead fast., The local contractors and their staffs have been taxed to the utmost during the last few months erecting new buildings, and still many people cau not obtain residences for love or money. Mr A W Matthews, who recently took ovor " Boridgerie," which ho purchased from Mr J Edwards, in tends to effect considerable improve ments to this splendid property in the near future. In Mr Matthews the district has sec'.ired one of the most progressive landholders i...
