Local and Domestic Intelligence. [Newspaper Article] — The Inquirer & Commercial News — 5 December 1855

Jfocat and gamestiq Jnte%eu^. We are happy to learn that there is every pros pect of a diminution in the price of flour after the ensuing harvest. There is at present about four months' supply of the staff of life — grain and flour — and with the yield of wheat in the colony, we must anticipate a fall in the market value, un less a iaxge quantity is held bade for high prices some nine months hence. It is estimated that the ruling price of wheat will be 7s 6d per bushel, and for floor 3d per lb. Tne harvest has already commenced in some districts among the «crly sown crops, and in the course of a fortnight reap ing wul be general throughout the Colony. VICTORIA. OCTOBER, 25, 1855. [Newspaper Article] — The Inquirer & Commercial News — 5 December 1855

VICTORIA. October, 25, 1855. The continuous large arrivals of rice and potatoes tend to keep down the pressure upon our flour mar ket, and the town millers complain that they never remember so dull a demand at this sdbson of die rear. Chilian is still quoted at the town mills at £36 10s to £37, although the entire cargo of the Royal Saxon is reported to have changed hands at nearly £4O per ton. At Sydney, up to Saturday last, we observe the price is stall quoted at £40, and £45 fcr Laonceston flcur. There have been scarcely any alterations in our import tsarkcts during the last week, but prices are generally quoted. Gold remains at £3 15s to £3 1 5s Cd, to diggers; the shipments continue to be very extensive.

Effect of the Thunderstorm. June 25. — Thestonn which burst over the south eastern portion of the Chersonese on the night of fba 23rd has done more damage than we could have an ticipated. Men were drowned in ravines converted by the tornado into angry watercourses, were carried off roads by mountain torrents, and dashed against hill sides; beasts were swept away into die haiixmr and sea; huts were broken op and floated out into tho ocean: the burial grounds near Balaclava were swept bare, and disclosed their grim army of die dead in ghastly resurrection, washed into strange shapes from oat of their shallow graves; and, greatest cala mity of aU, the raflwav was mvarums places ^decom posed, ripped up and broken down so as to be unser viceable at our greatest need. Orders have been eent down to urge on die necessary repairs, for the de- mands of the hatteriesforphot and shellare presane, and the electric telegraph has been repeatedly in nm to-day to foree on the attention of the author...
