No title [Newspaper Article] — Western Herald — 3 March 1888

Wk certainly cannot compliment our con temporary upon the reply to our last article ou the Laud question- The 'reply' is entitled to creiit as being a somewLat clever evasion of the point at issue, and is a practical admis sion of the very position we have taken up iu reference to this matter. The two prin cipal points ma former article appearing m the Central, and to which we took exception, were tlie advocacy 'of the resumption of the resumed aieas,' and their being offered for settlement under different conditions than are provided for in the Act under which they came into existence, and also the inferential assertion that settlement was waiting to pour ou to the resumed areas. Being scepti cal of the extent of this demand for land, we look upon the banishment of the present occupiers from the resumed areas as nothing but folly —until such time as there is clearly a greater demand for laud than exists at present. That there is a demand we admit, but the land now available is more...

F. L BARKER. [Newspaper Article] — Western Herald — 3 March 1888

r. i... barker! WooL— The new;s through from 'jjondou of closing of the present series has leached us, but cannot be deemed satisfactory, inasmuch as a fall iu December prices 5s reported all round, more especially in faulty descriptions, which are re ported £d to ] Id lower.
