The stook market continues to be very much da* pressed, the fancy stocks all drooping, and holder! being forced to make concessions to _effeat sales o f the better class of securities. Reading Railroad shares fell from 20 to 19, and dosed at 19}. Race and Vine-streets Passenger Kail way stock sold at 12f at the first board, and at 13 between boards. CITY ITEMS Lighting with Gas.—Hydrogen gas was used for illuminating in 1733. Clay toil's lighting by coal gas was before the public m 1737. Dr. Watson prodnced and burned coal gas is 1767. Murdoch made an extensive gas apparatus, at the _Boho Worts, in 1788, the _wotIcs being illuminated at the declaration of peace, in 1803 Pall-Mail, London, was lighted with gas made under Winsoi's patent in 1804.
