ENTERTAINMENTS. HAYWARD'S PICTURES. l The star film to be screened at His Majesty's Theatre this overling, is entitled "The Dead Man's Keys." The story will deal with a young clerk who was placed on trial for the.Jmurder of bis employer, a wealthy financier. Thoro was plenty of ovidence in the case to show that the young man and his employer had quarrelled on the day of the murder. All the young man had in his favour was the testimony of his fellow-dorks as to his good qualities. Another person who bolieved in him was the girl to whom ho was betrothed. The girl's grandfather, an aged locksmith, was given permission to inspect the dead man's keys, and discovered that on the night before the murder a man had called upon him with a wax model of a koy, and he had made a key from that model. The key was exactly similar to the key of the dead financia I'.s room. The excitement increased when the locksmith identified the chief clerk as his customer. The chief cler...

SUPREME COURT. CHRISTCHURCH SESSIONS. CRRISTCHURCH, May 26. Winifred Gra-co Webber (alias White) and Gertrude Anderson, tho iX,iv burglars, who pleaded guilty to thefts at' Mcsgiel and' Christchurdb, were sentenced by Judge Donmstou. His Honour said 'it was a painful caw. He sentenced tho girls to one month on each charge, a.nd said he would send a roceaimen.da.tion to the Governor that. they ho plae-ed in au industrial school for training. Charles Brown, charged with tho theft, of a, number 'of postal packets, that ho failed to deliver them._ a.nd that he.stole scarves and other things from, tho mails, appeared in uniform. His Honour said it wa,s a. very Wave matter to suppress the mails, also, purloin - insj; from tho rnaifc was bad; but accused mi«;ht make a good soldier, and would bo ordered to come up for sentence, when called on.
