t To Frotnote Fertility is Fruit Trees. 'Every' orcbardist must have observed that some fruit tree of superior quality, and of luxu riant growth, are yet slow in coming into a k-ar-ing state, and arc afterwards inconsistent, Tliii is the caso especially with tiic pear tree. Let ns note downsomc of tlic method proposed for remedying this evil: r - An abundant and rapid now of sap tends to the growth of new wood and leaves, rather than to the formation of fruitbuds. The check thereby given to the growth of roots and branches, causes the organizablc sap to ac cumulate in the branches, and directs it to the formation of fruit Hence it is that formal root pruning is sometimes practiced. As this pro cess is Described in nearly all fruit annua...
