Congress is now In session, and it is time something Was done to place the importance of our port before both Houses that onr interests may cot be neglected. We are satisfied that if the proper effort is put forth on the part of our citizens, a sufficient appropri ation can be had to complete the improve ments of the harbor next season. Major Ilarwootl has presented bis estimates looking to this end, and if this is prop erly backed by a showing of the import ance of the work and the necessity for the same we are satisfied that a sufficient appropriation can be bad to complete the work. NORTHERN TRIBUNE. SATURDAY. DECEMBER 11. 1S78. Official Paper ofthe County and Village A WOUDTO CAPITALISTS. Tho Tribune 1in3 relerred several times in the past to tho advantages af forded at Cheboygan for the establishing a dry dock, Each successive season, with it3 disasters occurring in this vicin ity, demonstrates the necessity of a dry dock somewhere in this section. We ithink there can be no question that it would prove an enterprise profitable to the projectors and ot economy to the vessel interests. Every season there are a greater or less number of accidents oc curring In this vicinity, which makes it nccessiry for the injured crafts to be placed in dry dock for repairs. As it is no iff, they have to be towed to either 3Ianitovoc, Milwaukee or port Huron. This necessitates a large expenditure in the way of tow bills, to s y nothing ot the expense ot steam pumps frequently lor davs at a time and the extra damage to cargoes from delay in getticg repairs. A great proportion of...

NORTHERN TRIBUNE. SATURDAY. DECEXIBEU 21, 1878. Official Paper of the County and Village MICHIGAN Till: BEST. The advantages this state offers to set tlers cannot bo kept too prominently belore the people. Several of the state papers have been doin good service in this direction by contrasting the pros pects afforded the settler in Michigan with those offered in the western regions. The railroads having land grants in the west are untiring in their efforts to keep thtir lands before the public, and of course it is to their interest to nresent the bright side of the picture in every case. That many have been lured away from Michigan by the glowing pictures pre s?ntcd by those who have lands to dis pose of is well known. It is also wt'l.' known that many have, to their sorrow. : proved that the west was not all taat their fancy pictured, and in many sections of the state can be found those who, in duced by the highlyYolored representa tions of these western lauds, became dis satisfied...
