PAGE 2 THE BASTROP COUNTY TIMES. SMITHVILLE TEXAS 78957 FRIDAY, JANUARY 2. 1976 BOOST BASTROP COUNTY Sometimes when I drive through Bastrop County, especially the business areas. 1 get the urge to poke it with a stick to see if it is really dead vet. , The entire attitude in this county seems to be one of dispair. Business is bad. The economy is bad. Energy is expensive. You can't get good help. The banks won't loan any money. These are only part of a continuing stream of dribble corrng from the lips of not only the businessmen but everyone. And I think it is a bunch of Bunk! Bastrop County is smack in the middle of the most beautiful area of the fastest growing state of the most powerfull and progressive ■country in the whole world. Bastrop County is within two hours of a population of over 8,000,000. Out of all the counties in Teias, Bastrop County is one of the most ideal for expansion, growth and an increased standard of living. Austin has to grow. And it will grow to areas like...

"How many jobs will really be filled by local people?" How much say will residents have in the final decision? When emotions cooled and communication was allowed to take place, it was explained that the "inmates" of the Center would be IS to 25 years old serving their first sentence for federal convictions.
