Here aaidESsewliese AT the Police Conrt on the 11th msL, Bobert William McCnlloch, de scribed as a drover, was charged with a breach of section 123a of the .' Elec tions Acts, 1885 to 1897," by making a false claim. From the evidence it ap^ peared that the accused on the 3rd May last lodged a claim with the jSIectoral Begistrar, in which he gave his place of abode as c/o Anderson Bros., Middle Creek, and his qualification as residence for the last preceding three months at the Union Hotel, Charleville. The evi dence of the licensee of the Union Hotel {Mr. Strachan), and of Mr. John An derson, showed these statements to be entirely false. At the conclasion of the cue the accused p'eaded guilty, and was committed for sentence at the Boma District Co art on Aagast 3rd. . The maximum penalty for the offence is a fine of £100 or twelve months* im prisonment. We learn by wire that Mr. W. L. G. Drew, the chairman of the Public Ser vice Board, died on Thursday morning After a brief illness....
