Letter to the Editor. DR. CUMMING IN SELF-DEFENCE. [Newspaper Article] — The Courier — 22 June 1861

Letter to the Editor. DR. CUMMING IN SELF-DEFENCE. Sir, - On arriving here last night I found that you had inserted in your leading article of that day a personal history of me, accord- ing to your version, or that of a correspon- dent, which, both in its details and inference, is very partial and incorrect, and calculated to bias tho public mind against me. Justice demands that you should allow me space to state the facts and inferences according to my version. Moreover the circumstances of the election demand notice for the infor- mation of the public. In the speech which you mention as con- taining the word " liberal" once, there was a great deal more than that; there was a strong denunciation against any attempt to re- introduce convicts into this country; a mea-   sure which experience ere long, proved by   the appearance of the "Hood's petition " to   be in contemplation.   When " Hood's petitions for nominee go- &nbs...
