EASTERTIDE. Tihe liolidays passed off very quietly itl Healesville, the majority of the re kidents ceiebijating the occasion by holding picnids, &c., at various pleasure resorts about the town. The Christian Endeavor Society for Young People held a picnic at Donnelly's Creek, and between 70 and 80 attended and passed a most enjoyable time. Towards even ing a steady stream of tehidles; carry ing their human freight, wended their way back to the town, and later on the bazaar, held in the Mechanics' and adjoining marquee, was patronised by a. large and interested assemblage. Altogether, the holidays passed off very pleasantly, and nothing occurred to mar the enjoyment of the many who were privileged to celebrate Eastertide in this and the neighboring districts. WARBURTON. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 7 April 1899

WARBiRTON. A race meeting was held at War burton on Saturdaylast on Mr. Cowan's farm. The attendance was good, the racing was excellent, and the general arrangements for the convenience of patrons was all that could have been desired. The committee carried out their duties in a systematic manner, and the labors of the handicappers were rewarded by the first-class racing which took place during the day. The principal event, the Open Handicap, was won by Mr. Maggs' Bounce; a nice looking animal, though it was probable that had the unplaced horse, Rose, not ran off, she would have won. The latter mare won the Hurdle Race in good style, and her jumping and galloping powers were the theme of favorable mention. This mare for merly belonged to Mrn W. Phillips, of Healesville, who sold it to MrS Laing for £5, but it is understood that she has again changed hands for £7 10s. Mr. Hewitt served up a warmn customer in Freedom for the 13.2 Pony Race, and won easily. Brigham easily appropriated f...

TOOLANGI. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 7 April 1899

TOOLAŽNGI. About 200 people assembled at Toolangi on Saturday last to participate in an afternoon's sport; principally conducted by the visitors at Toolangi House; wh6 also generotisly contributed most of the prize money. Doth young and old heartily etltered into the amusement, and without a doubt it was the most successful affair ever held there. Messrs. Thompson, Shap pere and Dare, assisted by the other gentlemen, worked hard and success fully in carrying out the plogramme, and deserved the many thanks that were liberally tendered to them: Mr. J. Smedley acted as handicapper in the chopping contests, and certainly showed his capacity for the task by the close finish in each event, whilst Mr. P. Henry carried out the duties of secretary in a most efficient manner. It is hoped that the same gentlemen will be at Toolangi at the next affair of its kind, for success will then be as sured, and a pleasant day's outing safely reckoned on. The Guardian. PUBLISHED FRIDAY MORNINGS. FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 1899. GENERAL NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — Healesville Guardian and Yarra Glen Guardian — 7 April 1899

.PUBLISHED FRIDAY MORNINGS. FRIDAY, APRIL 7, 1899. --rGENERAL NE WS. -o: Consequent upon the great- number of persons who visited here during the holidays, the demand for horses and vehicles was unusually large. On Good Friday, there were between 70 and 80 travellers escorted up the coun try by conveyances of all description from the Terminus stables. The en. quiry for this mode of travelling con tinued during the next few days to such an extent that the letting capacity of the stables was taxed to the extreme, but it speaks well for the general arrangements that the demand was sup plied. The Grand Hotel had also a very great proportion of tourists and others, and, needless to say, their wants were catered for in a manner that re flected credit on the proprietary. It was feared on Sunday that the weather had broken, and that a rainy period had set in, but on Monday morning old Sol shone forth in all his splendour, and the day throughout was a most beautiful one for outdoor enjoyment...
