The Stolen Gains borough. A ROMANCE OF CRIME". fa CABtiE published on April 10 stated.that Gainsborough's famous picture of the! Duchess ot Devonshire, which was stolen from the- gallery of Messrs. Agnew, in Bond-street,. London, on May 25, 1876, had been recovered^ in a town in one of the western States of America, and taken back tc England. Messrs. Agnew, it will be recollected,, bought the- picture- at the sale of the late Mr. Wymv Ellis's collec tion, only a few days before it was stolen,, for iojooogs. They- now value: it at 30,ooogs.
