HORRIBLE CATASTROPHE.   Jas. Johnstone, stock, and station agent, doing large business in Ballarat, some time last night or early this morning smothered four young children aged 2, 4, 6, and 8 years then shot his wife and took poison himself. When found the children were all dead, and the wife unconcious, and the father shiver- ing from the effects of the poison. He has since died, the wife being in a very critical condition. Some years before his marriage, Johnstone sustained injuries to his head, from which it was thought at the time he would not recover. Since his marrlngo he has been a kind father.
