CATHOLIC. I Some very uncalled-for remarks were made by the Grenfell correspondent of the Town and Country Journal, some week or two back, who asserted that the Catholic body of this district were angry at the npglect of their pastors in not visiting them more fre quently, and we cannot refrain, knowing the assertion must havo been made, to say the' least of it, in ignorance ot the circumstances of the case, from commenting somewhat severely upon it. 'The Rev. Fathers Finne pan and M'Carthy have their hands full, one of them having to be constantly at Young, in attending to the spiritual wants of their flock, scattered as it iB over such a large dis trict ; but that they have attended to the duties devolving upon them is evidenced by the fact that the only complaint we hear iB from the correspondent in question, whoever he may be. Mary Downey was charged with making use of obscene language in George-street, on the same morning, and pleading guilty, was lined 5s, or 24 hours in the lock-up. Wednesday, 21st February. Before Messrs. Pyne and Halls, Js.P. ABSCONDING FEOM HIRED SERVICE. George Darke was charged with having absconded from the hired service of John West, Esq., of Binda. Thomas Fitzpatrick v John Crook. — £10, amount of damage done to conditional pur chase, at Warraderry Creek, by trespass of defendant's cattle. Mr. Crommelin for the defendant, who pleaded not indebted. Complainant deposed : Defendant's cattle were always in my garden, ' and they destroyed my cabbages and pumpkins ; be tween thirty and forty head of his cattle were in upon numerous occasions, and I seve ral times sent them home by my daughter ; the trespass I complain of was on the 17th March, 1875 ; I may have made a mistake in the date, but the trespass was about this time twelvemonths ; the cattle destroyed be tween eight and nine hundred cabbages, and damaged a lot of fruit trees, leaving the gar den as bare as my hand. Gather also carrots, earth up turnips, prepare ground for winter crops, and protect cabbage and other plants from blight.— fn dry weather water flower garden. .\^Uiilliea may be dug up and stored, and ripe seeds not already gathered should be looked ^ afUr. — Orange trees should be pruned and thinned. Look well to the vines and trim off any leaves that prevent the fruit ripening. Pick and store ripe fruit. Plant strawberries in moist soils. — In the field continue tn break up land. S ; Mr. S. C. Brown moved the adjournment of £ the House .and a warm debate ensued. The s House divided at 12 o'clock, the Government obtaining a majority of three ; the numbers ; boing ayes 23, noes 26. It is generally believed that a dissolution / will tako place in a few days. The Supply Bill for February was passed t through all its stages, and the debate on the l second reading of the Electoral Bill was ad l journod until next Wednesday. There was a thunderstorm last night, with l heavy rain, but the weather continues in tensely hot. ; The Torres Straits mail arrived at Cooktown jo yesterday.

SCHOOL OF ARTS. The regular half-yearly meeting of the above institution, for the reception of reports and election of officers, was held in the reading room on Tuesday evening last, there being but a moderate attendance. Tho Chair was occupied by tho retiring Pre sident (Be v. F. S. Wilson), who, after some briof remarks, railed upon the Secretary' to road the followini' Aftor some remarks from the Chairman res pecting the operations of the past six months, Mr. Pyne moved the adoption of the report, which was seconded by Mr. Howaiith, and carriod unanimously. Owing to the Treasurer's office being vacant, by the departure of Mr. Kendall from the dis trict, no financial report had been prepared ; but a brief statement was made, showing that the receipts for tho past half-year, including the loan, had been nearly £55, while the expen diture for the same period had been £53 odd.
