CAULFIELD DISTRICT BOARD. This board held its 'usual meeting on llhursday last, when Messrs. S, Masters (chairman, Lloyd, Daish, Pennington, Coch rane, and Blaikie were present. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, the chairman reported the iesult of the case of the CaUlfield District Board v. Joseph Higgins, for encroachment in the Glen Huntly-road, which was that the defendant had been fined £5, with £2 2s. cost,. James IHoban was charged by John Camp bell Stewairt with having left his hired service before the pe:iod of his hiring had expiredl. The complainant, a farmer. at Mulgrave, alleged that he had by a verbal contract 'engaged the defendant for a year at 15s. A week, and that after having served .some time, I.e left him when -labour had become more va'u able. The defehdrnt's case was, that the hiring was a weekly .one,- but .Le[ did not produce any material evidence to that. effect.
