The -mover, in a most eloquent speech lasting several hours, reviewed the action of the Upper House for many years , past, and strongly j condemned tbat chamber as being opposed I to the progress and well — being of the j country. During his speech the Premier tracirpneatedlv annlanded. ATr. ~Rnr-lmnnn followed, declaiming in strong language against the Upper House, its constitution and practice. Mr. Pitzpatrick opposed the motion, doubting' the purity of the Premier's motives,- thinking his object was to attack the Council unfairly rather than to benefit the country. There is a double object to be gained in timbered country ; in des troying the o'possums, which are becom ing quite a pest in the bush ; and turning them to a most profitable account, by making rugs of their skins.
