Traveller. In Oriental Lands. [Newspaper Article] — The Elsternwick Leader and District Record — 24 December 1887

InL Oriental Lasuds. Th?uTrkish bridegroom is very like tlhie who, as the homely old proverb tells us, biiy a pig in a poke. The courtship is all done by proxy--the mothers being the agents who settle the amount of the handsome sum to be paid:down by the bridegroom. RAILWAY TRAFFIC. [Newspaper Article] — The Elsternwick Leader and District Record — 31 December 1887

A lWAY1 TRAFFIC. N `a bfore wads ibe Railway Deipartment so severely taxed as during the present holiday season. 'lThe weather being delightful the pIassenger traflic was simply lenor inous. On thie whole the Department is to be complimented for lithe busi ness-like and satisfactory manner in which the arrangements were carried out. Of course, there are complaints loud and long in somne quartcrs as to the Inches of the railway authorities. Complaints of overcrowding, of putting excursionists in sheep trucks, of carelessness at booking stations have been freely made. With regard to over-crowding, that is simply inm possible to prevent. It is unreason able to expect the department to multiply carriages and1 keep thenm in " idleness " for eleven months in the year that holiday seekers mnay not Ihave to rub their elbows against their neighbour:. With regard to the ail leged negligence at Birighton Beach Sstation, we consider the complaint Sutterly unfounded. It fell to our lot i to be i...
