COBARGO. On Monday Mr. W. P. Ham- mond's youngest son, Charlie, while playing with a dog was bitten in the groin, inflicting an ugly wound, necessitating several stitches. He had been suffering from enlarged tonsils for some time, and the ope- ration was an absolute necessity. One tonsil was removed, and the other will be operated on in a few weeks. The surgeons worked with- out the aid of chloroform. On Sunday at Breakfast Creek Mr. W. Blacka's son Adrian was chopping wood with a sharp toma- hawk when he sunk the blade into his instep. He was brought to his uncle's, Mr. A. D. Burns', at Co- bargo, and Dr. Meeke put three stitches in the wound. Adrian is able to hop about with the aid of a stick. CRICKET. Tnc match, between the bankers r83jd,Jatcombine(lStliistepij5f.tQm':T:he Grammar School and ,St. John's Institute was played on Saturday afternoon. The bankers played only 10 men, and even then had to include Champneys and Connor, the latter having been chosen to play in the intor-district match Tilba Tilba. Association v.' Southern Counties. Nevertheless the ban kers had an easy win by 01 runs. Hancock's fine hitting was tho feature of the play, his brilliant innings being onrled when ho jumped out to Abel and 'missed, Rogers closing the incident by smartly stumping him. During his stay at the wickets he dwarfed all previous hits by landing a ball on top of tho show pavilion from the southern end. Ebsworth made 44, chiefly by driving. Had the long grass been absent from the fielding ground, his score would have been counted, double. The next highest score to these batsmen was 8 not out by Champneys. FROM THE BULLETIN. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 13 December 1905

FROM THE BULLETIN. Recently, at the town of Mnc nolia, a white woman was sen tenced to ten years' imprisonment for marrying a negro, and the Court regretted that it could not make the sentence heavier. Adelaide cabinet-makers com plain of a new trick by the Heathen Chinee. The stuff is not sold in the usual manner, but houses are furnished with it, and clearing sales of same held, the goods being in some cases sold as those made by a manufacturer of world-wide fame. AUSTRALIAN BUSHRANGING. THE EARLY DAYS. Chapter V.-Continued. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 13 December 1905

AUSTRALIAN BUSHRANGING. THE ZE^IR/Xi^T ZDA.3TS. 'By CHARLES WHITE. Chaptkii V. — Continued. Stealing cautiously through the bush, with his little party of four or five men, he espied the ban ditti, in number about sixteen, busily cooking and eating in a hol low, some thirty yards below* where he stood — their arms piled a few Daces distant. Leaving the men above with orders how to act, and creeping down the bank, he suddenly jumped into the midst oi the rob bers, shouting out, 'Yield in the King's name, ye bog-trotting vil lains!' Then, looking up towards, his party, 'Send down,' he cried, 'two file to secure the arms; stand fast the remainder, and shoot the first man that moves.' About 20 stand of arms were thus taken pos session of, handcuffs were applied as far as they would go, and, in credible as it may appear, the dis armed banditti, with their teeth drawn, were safely conducted by their captain to a neighboring township.' Here is another extract from Mundv:— 'While on a visit...

Irrigation. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Budget — 13 December 1905

Irrigation. At liist meeting of the Boga Mu nicipal Council a letter was read from Mr. A. Champncys of Kamc ruka stating that Mr. McKay was giving a series of lectures through out the State on the important subject of irrigation, and that if the Council were favorable the services of the lecturer would be available for Bega in January. The Council didn't object to Mr. McKay coming, provided it didn't ''cost the ratepayers anything. The Budget thinks that it would have been better had Mr. Champnoys approached the Agricultural So ciety on the matter, for irrigation is a subject which directly con cerns the man on the laud, 'and the Society is pre-eminently a farmers' institution which caters for their advancement all the time. At the sarne time tlie Council is to be commended for taking the matter up and arranging for a lecture. The Budget presumes that Mr. McKay is a capable man and fully accredited by the Govern ment. A lecture on the allimpor tant subject of irrigation might not in...

Of the popu lation of -6,000,000 there are only 2(100 Roman Catholics, the re mainder of thn population belonging almost entirely to the Lutheran Church. The critics wore in accord in say ing she readied the highest path of . tradition, and sang with a pathos entirely her own. Olga Cadiah has caused a sen sation in America by alleging that women's clubs are a prolific cause of race suicide. The clubs deny thecharge, and declare that it is better to secure qualit)' in children rather than quantity. Getting on the stage is easy enough, says a well known comedian 'getting off again gracefully is the real problem.' A young aspirant ? says this is not his experience.
