THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND MACQUARIE ADVOCATE. Saturday, March 3, 1894. [Newspaper Article] — The Dubbo Liberal and Macquarie Advocate — 3 March 1894

THEDUBBO LIBERAL AND JflACQUARIE ADYOCATE. Sitnrtef, March 3, IIM< THE fact that an extraordinary vacancy has occurred in the Council by the non-attendance for three months of Alderman O'Connor does very little credit to his brother aldermen, who had it in their power, by grant ing him the leave of absence for which he applied, to keep his seat open until his return from the official duties on which lie is engaged. There has been no meeting of the Council since January 24, the one called for February 5 lapsing in .conse quence of a counter attraction at the Protestant Hall, while cince the Mayoral election it has been found impossible to obtain a quorum. An oppor tunity was given the aldermen on Tuesday evening to attend a special meeting called for the purpose of extending the usual courtesy to Mr. O'Connor, but it was not availed of, and thus the seat is rendered vacant. The frequency with which the Council meetings are allowed to lapse is, in the interests of the ratep...

0VB SYDNEY ZETTStt. [FBOU OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] STDNHT, Thursday. Tbe ory of the dtsfrattdbised is becoming monotonous, and the muoh wanted Eleotoral Act which was to go NO far towards reform ing oar aooial nonditiona is now almost friendless. Since its inception thin measure has had a troublous existence, and after all the *' tinkering " it has been submitted to it baa not yet been sufficiently patched to reader it workable, even the Validating Sill of the Imperial Parliament, with her Graoiom's usent, proving this insufficient to enable this rickety speoiirtm of the ability of oar legislators to atand the strain of a general election.
