THE COURIER ON THE NORTHERN RAILWAY. [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 12 March 1872

THE COURIER ON THE NORTHERN RAILWAY. Tue leitet* signed " David Copperfield, junr.," in our yesterday's issue deserves serious attention for several reasons. In the first place the writer is a resident on the spot, certainly knows as much probably knows more about the country bolwccu Peak Downs and Broadsound than any other man in the colony, nnd is fully competent to form an intelligent opinion on the subject of roads. We believe that the opinion expressed iu the letter referred to is an unbiassed qpiniou, founded solely on his knowledge and ex» < pericuco of the country between Peak Downs and Westwood on the ono hand, and Peak Downs and Broadsound on tho other. Ho is not disinterested in the matter, because it ia bis interest to havo a good road between the Peak Downs and a sea-port-the shortest and best that can bo made-and as speedily as possible. But hore his interest begins and ends, so far as we know or can, imagine ; and this we take it is the best < pr...

WOMEN DOCTORS. (From the New York Tribune.) [Newspaper Article] — Rockhampton Bulletin — 14 March 1872

WOMEN DOCTORS. (From the New York Tribune.) Tai prospect! of medical education for women nre brightening. Theraodical faculty of Moscow, it ts «tated, bare not only decided that elie privilege of acquiring a thorough practical knowledge would be of utility lo women, bat hare "resolved to admit them to tho educational courses end lectures of tbe University, and to elie privilege of following all the labours of tbe Medico-Ohrirurgical Academy. The Emperor has also issued au order that women shall be instructed in Midwifery, and authorised them to act a« surgeons, to vaccinate, and be employed as chemists." The influence Mr. DAINTREE may be expected io command in directing i British capital to tho development of I our mineral resources, is a groat poiut iu favour of bis appointment, and bis non-connection .with either of Ibo political parties in the colony is another recommendation. Of his business qualiGcntions we as yet know little, but there is no reason to doubt his capacity for the work he has undertaken.
