I LATEST MARKET Nfc ^ [Newspaper Article] — Urbana Daily Courier — 11 March 1903
I LATEST MARKET Nfc ^ £ Furnished by William White and Son , 5 v Members Chicago Board of Trade . ~ K OIIIGAGO GRAIN LETTER . Urbana , March 10 . — WHEAT—Although foreign markets were firm and Influenced values favorable at the start , local sentiment was bearish , duo to the belief of largo farmers supplies and while there was little commission house selling , Patten was most prominent In that direction . Trade was light but values worked up slightly near the close on 100 . 000 bushels worked ito Lisbon at the seaboard . It looks very much as if wheat had been sold to a standstill and we think at the moment that bearish sentiment la altogether too popular . CORN—Trade was light and largely local with sentiment more bearish than otherwise , on the belief that farmer reserve will show bumper figures . Clearances werelarge and we look for their continuance . Any break in May , we think will be productive of buying . OATS—Were tirm early but a good deal selling appeared on fear of a be...
UNDERMINED BY WORMS . [Newspaper Article] — Urbana Daily Courier — 11 March 1903
UNDERMINED BY WORMS . Foundntlonn otf Milwaukee Bnalnena IIouhck DamnKiil by a Singular Iimect . Milwaukee buildings are being imperiled by u worm eating away the foundations and there appeals no way of preventing it , said Raleigh T . Jacobs , of the western city , to a Washington Star man recently . The city building officials are much worked up over the effects of the worm , which is known to science as the liranoria . The attention of the building department has been called to the sinking of buildings and the bulging of walls on business blocks , and in many instances it has been necessary to brace the buildings with heavy beams to keep them from falling . The old buildings , mostly of brick , which line the sides of the river in Milwaukee were built upon what builders call floating foundations . First a layer of railroad ties was laid and the stone foundation was placed on them . It in on these ties the worms are apparently at work . The worm floats along the surface of the wat...

¦ BARTENDERS IN REFORM MOVE [Newspaper Article] — Urbana Daily Courier — 11 March 1903
¦ BARTENDERS IN REFORM MOVE Drink Dl » pcn » er » of Jemey City Propose to Form Temperance Organisation . Jersey City , N . J ., March 10 . —The bartenders of this city are discussing a proposition to form a temperance society . There will be a meeting held when , it is understood , the subject will receive consideration . One of the lenders in the movement is quoted us saying : I think the idea a good one . Why should not bartenders be total abstainers ? The interest of their employers demands that .. they shall at all times be steady , sober and industrious . Why should a bartender be obliged to drink every time , he is invited to do so by a customer ? It is a pernicious custom . I believe twothirds of the bartenders are ready to become total abstainers .
