College Organizations . In talking and reading of the various activities which absorbed the attention of college students a generation ago , we must be struck with the vast difference between student life as it now is and that of our fathers . In marked contrast with our day , it seems as if the student of ye olden times knew of naught but the weary , unchanging routine of study . We fully realize , however , that the only way to hew a solid , complete education from the vast quarry of human knowledge , is by means of the chisel of hard labor . Perhaps the greatest factor in bringing about the change is the spirit of organization in the colleges of the present day . Most of the various organizations now existing in the colleges of our land were a thing unknown to students of former years . Not only are these organizations rather of a modern origin but they are also American . Yankee push , and restless inventive energy must of necessity find some avenue of escape , and the breaking ...

Uovett s Boston Stars . A very large and appreciative audience filled Brua Chapel last Saturday evening , at which time occurred the third entertainment in the Y . M . C . A . Course . Those who had looked forward to a rare musical treat were not disappointed , and everyone agrees in saying that Lovett s Bostons Stars are artists of very marked ability . The readings of Miss Brewer were well received . Miss Hills solos were of high order and received merited applause . Miss GarriU s violin selections were highly appreciated by all lovers of music present . She has brought her art to a high degree of perfection . Mr . Frank G . Reynolds , in his comical recitation , impersonations , solos , duets , and witty stories , brought forth encore and storms of applause . The Y . M . C A . committee is to be congratulated upon the excellent choice of entertainers . Should the Boston Stars at any time return to Gettysburg they would doubtless be greeted with even a larger audience than the one...

The Students Assemble in mass meeting . On Saturday afternoon , at a rousing , well-attended mass meeting , presided over by J . A . Singmaster , 98 , it was unanimously decided to celebrate Washington s birthday with the traditional Gettysburg festivities . A fine parade is arranged , of which C . J . Fite , 98 , was elected Cllirf Mnrclm ! Mr . Pite has selected as his aides Messrs . Erdman , Culler , Grazier , Albers _, Beerits , Doty , Dale , Stifel , and Geo . Weaver , who in conjunction with him are working to make this the best parade we have ever had . A number of the boys are getting suits , ( fancy , fantastic and otherwise ) from Baltimore for the occasion , while others are using their own inventive skill . The home ma _^ le costumes have often in former years been the best . Let every student take part in the parade ! Go in yourself and urge others to do so . Make this a day to be remembered . It seems to be understood that should rain spoil arrangements , the parade wi...
