OFFICIAL JOURNAL of the Parish of LAFAYETTE anl of the Town of VERMILIONVILLE, PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY BY WiH. B. BAILEY VERMILIONVILLE, LA.. Saturday---July 6, 1878. if there are any Democrats in this parish who oppose a constitutional con vention, we extend to them the use of our columns. Let us have a free and fair dis cussion of the question. So far, the prin cipal reasons for opposing a convention, are based upon fears that some office bolders and monopolies might be disturb ed. We want to hear other and better Democratic objections. We referred last week to the opposition of office-holders to a constitutional con vention and the selfish grounds upon; which that opposition is based. There: are however, some worthy exceptions, and so far as the officers of Lafayette parish are concerned, to their honor and credit be it known, we are not aware of a sing!e one, from District Judge to constable, who opposes a convention. What other par ish can make such a showing as that . In two ...

,lc EafaiLctte 'bucrtiicr. OFFICIAL JO'URNA.L of the Parish of LAFAYETTE and of the Town of VEHMIL!ONVILLE,. PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY BY WYI. B. BAILEY VERMILION VILLE, LA., Saturday---July :3, 1878. The bridge at Pin Ihook still remains in a very dangerous condition. The crops of this parish continue to be promising. The corn is about made and the yield'will be unusually large. The Fourth of July was scarcely ob served here this year, not even by the col ored population, who have hitherto for reasons unknown to us, celebrated the day with peculiar zest. A number of parishes have selected del egates to the 'Baton Rouge Convention, a large majority of whom have been in. structed to favor the calling of a Constitu tional Convention. The railroad talk has not created any "fever" here yet and the improvements going on in our town are not due to that cause. Our people have been attacked by that "fever" several times and conse quently are not much subject to it now. Among the improvements...
