Evans to the Re nan Commercial club. one is led to believe that the joint meeting held in Ronan on May 16, by the several clubs of the reservation, is bearing fruit. The resolutions adopted at that meeting and for warded to Secretary Lane has re ceived careful consideration and must have made an impression on that official. If so, it is the first time such resolutions have penetrated or been seriously thought of after having been re ceived. During the past three years similar resolutions have been forwarded to official Wash ington many times and while they have all been very...

Great Britian realizes the stragetic in fluence and is preparing to estab lish a naval base in the Bermuda Islands, abandoned long ago. It is thought other European na tions will follow suit. NO. 17. RONAN, MISSOULA COUNTY, MONTANA, AUGUST 22, 1913. $2.00 Per JEALOUSY OF RONAN MAKES POLSON RIDICULOUS, In their accounts of the visit of Secretary Lane at Poison last week, both of the Poison papers made themselves ridiculous. In no instance did they make men tion of the fact that the Ronan delegation was on hand to escort the secretary and his party across the reservation, in the face of the fact that arrange ments to that effect had been made with the secretary ten days in advance. If this occur red through a lack of knowledge, then the shortcomings of the Poison bretheren is more to be pitied than censured, but the big chance is that it was not ignor ance of the facts but rather a jealousy which is most acute, To set the matter straight once and for all, the Pioneer will give...

August 22. 1913. DISAPPOINTED To be entirely frank about the matter, there is much disappoint ment all over the reservation over the outcome of Secretary Lane's recent visit. The people here honestly believe the secre tary has been unduly influenced by someone whose ideas of the eternal fitness of things are out of harmony with the spirit of the motive which prompted the resolutions adopted by the joint meeting of commercial clubs held in Ronan on May 16, which were said to have received favor able consideration at his hands at the time the same were laid before him prior to leaving Washington for Montana.
