When "a few gentlemen of wealth, posi tion, and scientific attainments" opened, in 1826, the first exhibition of the American Institute, they little dreamed that within forty-fonr years a half a million of visitors would view the products of industrycollect ed all along the land from ocean to octan. This number is estimated for 1871. The Eric Canal was not opened. Ohio and Mich, Igan were only names on the Atlas. The Exhibition of 1872 opens brilliantly, with a splendid array of art, manufactures, and all industries. It is a singular fact that the only exhibition of varied agricultural products is that of the land department of the Northern Pacific Railroad Company; yet that collection is one of significance and well worth a day's study. Grouped taste. fully on an immense table of nearly 300 square feet, with receding s...

On our arrival Count Bis marck was engaged with one of the French Legitimate princes, who was urging upon the Premier the claims of his house. On being shown in we found Count Bismarck busily engaged in copying, with a lead pen cil as thick as ones thumb, some very rough draft of a document. lie came forward and received us with warmthand a smileof gen uine amiability and kindness, and after a. few remarks upon the latest war news, begged to he permitted to finish his copy,...
