. - EDITOR. WEDNESDAY MORMNC, 50V. 1!. 1871. The following truthful portrait of the city of Meadvillc, we take from the Derrick'! correspondence from that place: This ancient burg of beautiful resi dences, narrow streets and careful busi ness men is weathering the financial storm gallantly. There are, perhaps, fewer failures in business houses in this ci'.y than any place of like pro portions in Western Pennsylvania. The character of the place is rather wore conservative than some of the neighboring cities, . and still without being behiud the age to any great de gree. The "conservative," wo take it, means that the business men of Mead ville buy do more goods than they are able to pay for, and that their young men make their money before they spend it, and do not attempt to rival Paris, and cast New York in the shade by their reckless extravagance and un-paid-for gayeties. Thero are other cities we wot of, which, had they fol lowed the lead of their more solid ri val, would not to-d...
