Home, Farm and Garden Spring Management of Animals. Spring is a critical time for all farm btoclc that have been wintered in et Abies, unless care is used between the time when grasi begins to start and that sea son when feed i fluh and the weatler settled. Man farmers care for their an imals daring the winter with the great est assiduity, giving them plenty of feed and waler, and ward stables ; but, never theless, as soon as grass comes, turn them out to shift for themsclves.allowing them to lie out of nights, and often during the severe storms so prevalent in spriug. The consequence in, such stock, and especial ly hordes, contract disease, and oltcn the foundation is laid fur disability through life. . The reme ly is entire y simple and ought to suggest itself to every man who cares for stock. Stable them as carefully every night as you would have done during the winter, and until the wea'her is settled, and thereafter stable them whenever there are indications of a storm. This should...

Find U J, O., April 1,1875. SENATOR ANDREW JOHNSON. Governor Brownlow'. review of Andy Johnaou'a upeecb in the Senate present the, e-Prideut in a rather unenviable light before the public. Johnson, it will be remembered, cites his own course in regard to Tennessee in comparison with that of President Grant in Louixiana. Brownlow shows Johnson to have been a conspirator against the legal State Gov ernment of Tennessee, charging hiiu with interfering with the legally elected Legis lature by instigating members to with draw and break up that body. The ob ject to be accomplished by Johnson was the defeat of the 14th Amendment, and the means nsed to accomplish it was the patronage of the Federal Government, Brownlow charging that Johnson prom ised and paid Federal offices to members for doing this work. And while he was doing this, be refused the use of United States soldiers as a posse to enforce the legal process of the State authority. The difference, then, between Grant and Johnson, ...

The babits of a c'jild, wisely acJ well ordered in early life, are tbe otlj foao- daUcn for an aecomplit-Led and worthy macticod. If tlie cLild is cart-f illy ed ucated, aid wisely governed, there is reason to Lojc that he will become a jrood citizen. He will go into society not unused to the wholesome icr-.traiuta of law, and not unfitted for the respon sible duties of tbe citizen. Nothing ia of bibber value to tbe child than a thor ough mastery of bis pagftiong, bo that when full-grown be will find it easy to submit to tbe will and authority of these whose right il is to govern. Home, Farm and Garden To Drive Rats Away without Poison. We know of three methods: First, the old French plan; this Is followed in Par is by men who make it abubinew. They take deep tab with water on the bot tom, and a little elevation in the middle, like an island, on which is only place for cue rat to ait on. The top is covered and L x a balanced valve opening downward ; on the middle of this valve a piece of fned pork or cheese is placed, and when a rat walks on it to get the cheese the valve goes down, drops the rat into the water, and the valve moves back into position. A road is made from a rat hole to the top of the tub, by means of a board rubbed with cheese, so as to make the walk attractive for the rats. In the coarse of a single night, some ten, tweuty.or even more rats may go down, and if the bland was not there they would be found most all alive in the morning, quietly swimming around; but the provision of the little island saves the trouble of killing them, because thei...
