...LOCAL TOPICS This week the Adams County Bank becomes the First National Bank of capatalized at $30,000. The institution was opened ten years ago and during the time has been well officered, successfully managed and has proven a great benefit to our town and county. It was one of the few banks that passed unscathed through troublous and panicky days of 1893 when the business pulse of the nation was at low ebb; when the present and future looked dark and discourage ment and anxiety marked every face. Confidence in its soundness was never lost by our people, and many who were saved from finaucial ruin by its timely assistance will ever hold it in high esteem. Three years ago Andrew J. Coss, our present city marshal, was notified that he was on- of the heirs of his grandfathers estate which was valued and appraised at $27,000 in cash and property. Today he received a receipt from the attorney for his signature for three dollars and fifty eight cents which will be his total share of t...

...LOCAL TOPICS A plan is on foot to establish a base ball ground in the southern part of town on the east side of tiie railroad track. Several hundred dollars will be required tu make the necessary im provements, such as breaking ground, building a graiid stand, purchasing suits and paraphernalia and projlerly equipping ihe diamond. This esti mate does l'ot include the solid high board fence, which will take an addi tional outlay of about $203. Mr. Jesse Dorman who is the prime mover of the scheme states that if some means can be devised to erect the fence the rest can be accomplished by the com mittee having the matter in hand. If rightly managed there is little doubt but that the project could be made self supporting and thereby promul gate the athletic sport so eagerly sought after by our young men which is so conducive to good health and the development of physical culture. All enterprising citizens owe their encouragement and assistance to this laudable undertaking. Annual ele...
