Notwithstanding the light Tote the Bepublicans of Maryland polled Bsore Totes this year for the State ticket than they did last year, when the excitement was high. For Gov . ernor, last year, they polled 58,820 -votes, while for Controller this year poll 59,398. But for the Democrat ic frauds in Baltimore, in which they were openly cheated, their vote would have run up to nearly 63,000. SPECULATING BANKERS. It would be very strange indeed if the speculating bankers of N. Y. who have been promoting causes of panic for years by their method of transacting business, should fail to .make objection now that the con earvative financiers propose to lop off the bad features of the business. Bnt the business men of this conn try are at the back of the men who favor the reforms proposed to the ' 17. Y. Clearing-House, an will stand squarely up to any effort to give those reforms effect. ...
