rrotn Washington. ."Washington, Oct. 11. Representatives Steele, of New Jersey, and Dawes, of Massachusetts, have arrived here. They are members of the House committee appointed during the late session cf Congress to investigate all contracts made by the Government. After transact ing some business at the War and Treasury Departments, 1hey left the city this after noon for St. Louis. ' One of their fellow committee men is awaiting them there. Tbe government lias offered every facility for the investigation, and it is known, that that the action cf the committee thus far has been highly beneficial to the country. The action was fought on the 21st inst., commencing at a quarter past two o'clock, P. M., and cmtinued about three hours.
