A private letter from General Buelf army stales that Lo lias started with Lis wholo army for East Tennessee via Huntsvillo. The Secretary of War lias received a dispatch from Gen. Morgan. It states that his command had advanco to attack tho rebels at Cumberlacd Gap, but on their arrival it was found he had evacua ted that very important position. On tho 1 7th inst., four gunboats and one transport, advanced up White River lo clear it of obstructions. About eighty fivo milos up, two concealed batteries mounting thrco heavy sicgo guns and six field pieces, openod upon them. A plunging shot from ono of tho siego guns passed through tho steam chest of tho Mound City and filled tho vessel with steam. Twcnlv-thrco only escaped un injured.
