VHinin (Countil $ounutl. SAN RAFASL, AUCUST 31. We Feel Hurt (?) —We understand from various sources, that if we persist in expressing our opinion in regard, to the success of the "Melted Ticket," it will greatly injure us. If we are to he bound up, and must not express our opinions, in regard to matters that concerns every good and true citizen, then, we think, the sooner we tumble out of such a community, the better it will be for us. As for the benefits that we shall rcceive we think they will be like the angel's visits —few, and far between —All that we ask for is a fair remuneration for our labor ; we wish it distinctly understood that we are not black-mailers, and will not be considered so. by c.mj o:ic. My Cottage toy the Sea. [Newspaper Article] — Marin Journal — 7 September 1861
My Cottage toy the Sea. 'Tis not a palace where I live, Nor yet a mansion fine: But for them all I would not give This lovely home of mine. Pacific's white capped bounding waves, With never ceasing roar, The sandy beach of ocean laves, So near our cottage door! I love when in the wintry skies The storm-king howls his blast; When high in air the billow's rise, And roll in grandeur past, Awed by the fearful scene to view, The angry ocean o'er; Such scenes my restless spirit woo, From charirfs they felt before. Content within this spot to dwell, • I ask no more on earth; Than kindred hearts that freely swell, To touch of joy and mirth. O, lot the high-born ladies live In great and pampered state; 15ut health, and lowly sweetness give, To such as with me mate.
