Sporting Scraps. [Newspaper Article] — The Charleville Courier — 16 July 1898

{ Sporting1 Scraps. AO attempt to arrange a football match between Cliarleville and a team chosen from the ranks of the Flying Gang and other railway employees for Sunday last resulted in failure, the latter not muster ing in sufficient numbers. We hear, however, that they are anxious to try conclusions at cricket, and in this respect Charleville will no doubt lie able to ac commodate them. The fixtures with the railway repre sentatives having fallen through, a scratch match was played and resulted in a draw, both sides securing eleven points. The prospects of football do not seem by any means brilliant. Owing to the apparent impossibility of arrang ing outside matches many players have dropped from the ranks from lack of interest and content themselves with watching the game from afar. Unless a change comcs over the scene the life of the game this season will he a short, | if not a merry one. The Sandgate and East Moreton Rasing Club's July Meeting on Satur day proved successful.
