AN Ofc'FICiAL CIRC'JLAR. ' The Department of Heulth yester day circularised all municipalities to the following effect:— 1. The epidemic ofinfluen/.a now prevalent throughout the State is similar in charactor'to the disease which,occurred every year for many years past It differs in the fact that it- is more widespread than in pre vious years. The percentage of fa tal-cases is lower than that of diph theria, and very much, lower than that of typhoid fever. 2. Owing to the lack of nuises it is not possible to treat every case in hospital, nor is there any necessity to do so. Constable .Maddern submitted • the evidence. • Counsel fur defendant said his client was nuder the influence of liquor at the time and was not aware of having used the language.
