Profaning the Burial Service. The Blue Ribbon people complain that, not only is the Brisbane Press diametrically opposed to the principle of total abstinence, but also that the clergy of its Christian Churches are unmindful of its virtue and necessity. The latter charge is but too well sustained. The other day, a clergyman of a Christian church in Brisbane was selected to perform the last sad offices for the interment of the remains of a deceased member of his congregation in the Toowong cemetery. That Christian clergyman came to the ceremony so intoxicated that he could not read the solemn service for the burial of the dead. The feelings of the mourning relatives and friends were cruelly harrowed by the disgraceful exhibition thus made. The reverential occasion was turned into a heartless farce.
