[advertisement.] To the Editor of the Hay Standard. Sir, — Now that one or two good citizens, anxious for the public welfare, have, with un exampled promptitude, accomplished for us Municipal incorporation, is it not monstrous that 'certain personages composing the '* black and tan ' clique, are already hotly engaged iu warping Municipal Government to their private ends. This is not the policy prescribed by public patriotism, and the electors should join to suffocate it from tiie post. Purely personal ambition, and not the public weal, is the spirit-stirring object which animates the clique — and for which they are busily engaged in working the iree and independent electors. They are thinking how best they may influence the electors to stoop low enough at the door of the ballot room — so as to make the work easy of walking- across them into the Council Chamber. Right-minded people should not hold in disdain the abilities of the clique ; since it is usually a very ruinous game to dea...

MELBOURNE. June 7. [Newspaper Article] — The Hay Standard and Advertiser for Balranald, Wentworth, Maude... — 12 June 1872

MELBOURNE. (from our own correspondent.1 . ,n, ' ? June 7. xae political crisis has advanced another stage, and the Duffy administration is a thing of the past. 'Very many were the conjectures as to how the Government would decide, especially when it was known that Mr. Duffy had prepared a 'Cabinet Minute' for-tli« special attention of His Excellency. When the House met on the 31st iilt, 'the Chief Secretary did not put in an appearance ; a long debate, to no purpose, upon the question 'whether Mr. Duffy would submit to the House first, the grounds upon which he intended to ask His Excellency for a dissolution. Hon. members were extremely anxious to be allowed to ' enquire you know ' into the various parts of the advice to be tendered, and as their curiosity was satisfied it was decided that the House should meet at noon on the next day (Saturday). On the Assembly naeeting Mr. Duffy, quite equal to tbe occasion, drew the attention of the Speaker to the fact that the House could not ...

Rumour has asserted that the new Ministry was formed, and that all that now remained to be done was the swearing in. The rumour in this instance has proved to be un founded. In spite of the fact that lists of the new Ministry were posted in conspicuous places, and j vouchsafed by all and sundry to be the final arrangements of Mr Francis, the truth really is that up to very recently the formation of the Ministry had not been com- ; pleted, and, therefore, any announce- j ment of Ministers was premature. The following are the list in cir culation : — Mr Francis, Chief Sec retary ; Mr Langton, Treasurer ; Mr Stephen, Attorney General ; Mr Kerferd, Solicitor General ; Mr Gillies, Lands ; Mr Cohen, Cus toms ; Mr Kamsay, Railways ; Mr Mackay, Mines. In all probability most of the names in the above list will be found in the Ministry when formed. — Age. TO THE EDITOR OF THE HAY STANDARD. [Newspaper Article] — The Hay Standard and Advertiser for Balranald, Wentworth, Maude... — 12 June 1872

To the Editor of the Hay Standard. Sir, — It seems the news has run like wild fire that Hay is incorporated as a Municipality. The heart of the town is throbbing with excitement. I am a householder, and believe that I may vote. During the past ten days I have been interviewed by not less than four persons : all desirous of being Aldermen, and representing interests which are secretly gathering their strength for the conflict for place in the first Council. One of the parties whom I shall describe as a three lettered gen tleman, and who it is said is trembling with anxiety to be Mayor, asked me m a mysterious knowing manner, to plump for him at the coining election. Besides, he would be dis satisfied 'with me, unless I threw all the neighbours' votes I could get, as well as my own, into the scale against a party of people which he called the 'Squatters' Party.' I asked him, of course, as he seemed to know all about it, and how it was done, who the ' Squatters' Party ' were : who were...

Hay Municipality has now, in an unexampled short space of time, passed the tedious early stage which has sickened the stout hearts of many in much larger places. Den iliquin was years in the inchoate Vooo n Anrrli /iAivi mnn/aari (iuu xaoo aiunvugu w«iiu.H/uvvu long before us, was until lately groping in some waste paper basket for her petition, and inay perhaps have to begin de novo. From the initiatory step taken by the pro prietor of this journal when in Hay about six months since to the pre sent time, the ball has been kept rolling — no false step has been made, and no time lost. Political circumstances have been highly unfavourable for the speedy for warding of all, such movements. The Ministers of the Crown have been in a turmoil ever since our Municipality was mooted ; there has been a dissolution of Parliament — three governors have been in office in the meantime ; a new Ministry have taken the reins of Government in hand, but, notwithstanding all, here we are an incorporate...
