Obituary. MR. H. C. WELLS. At Frankston on Wednesday last there passed away one of the earliest of Penin- sula residents, in the person of Mr Henry Cabdy Wells. at the advanced age of 89 years. Mr Wells was widely known and respected in the district, in which he had lived for close on 50 years. He leaves a family of seven-six sons and one daugh- ter. There are three remaining genera tions of the Wells family, most of whom live in and around Frankston, in which place the deceased gentleman had resided continuously since his arrival when a young man nearly 50 years ago. Mr Wells followed his occupation of a boot maker for many years at Frankston, and the leather used in his business he for a long time tanned himself. His eldest daughter (Mrs Kelly, of Frankston.) was the first white child born in the Penin- sula. Born in Wiltshire. SOMERVILLE. (Copies of ihe STASDARD can-be'obtsined from Mr D. M. Bett.) MUSICAL SOCIETY CONCERT. On Friday evening last the Somer ville-Musical Society gave their first concelt, and it was perhaps 'ithe best musical performance ever givenr at Somerville. Misses-Taylor and Hors .fall opened with a pianoforte duet, and it was magnificently executed. Miss Redley, from Cranbourne, ren dered the songs, " To-night," and " The Gate of Heavent," in such a manner that the least ' nmusical of the audience could on ysay " how lovely." Mr C. H.. Hawkins- (Melbourne) of German Opera fa7nih, sang in a beauti fully clear tenor voice, "A May Morn ing." .and " Stowaway."' Mesdames Reid, Keast, and Day gave " The Three Old Maids of Lee," in inimitable manner, and Mr S. S. Gault recited a dramatic piece in the best of style. The cantata, "The Country Life," proved, as we anticipated, a inusical treat rarely experienced in these parts. The solos, which space forbids to dilate upon, were well rendered ...
