The Warragul Guardian. THURSDAY, AUGUST 5, 1880. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 5 August 1880

• rt a, uZ.. (t ýý iý. THURSDAY, AUGUST 5, 1880. Oua Narracan correspondent draws attention to the'fact that the district in which he resides has been unrepre sented at the Council table, and hopes to see one or two local memlbers re turned at the approaching election. Our advice to the ratepayers is to so lect men in such a manner that each portion of the Shire will be repre sented as well as circumstances will permit Having nopersonal kinowledge of the three Narracan candidates, we cannot be accused of writing against either of their candidatures when we advise the ratepayers to se lect one of the three. They should remember that they have Crs. Robin son, Lloyd, and Wood now represent ing what may be termed the central portion of the Shire, and if they had one more local representative they would have enough. But MIr. VaPn" ought to be re-elected, if only out of justice to that portion of the Shire of which hlie may be said to be the only representative ; and we think that Mr W?Ro...

THE AUGUST ELECTIONS. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 5 August 1880

TIE AUGUST ELECTIONS. The election of counclllors to fill the vacant seats ini the three Shtres which this journal repiesnts, viz., the Buln Buln, Narracau and Traralgon, takes place on Thursday niext, and from present appearances promises to be at. tended with more than ordinary inte rest, chiefly in the Bulu Buln Shire, owing to the fact of the Shire being divided into four ridings, which neces sitates the return of three members for each riding, thus giving, fair rep resentation on all sides. Forthe north east riding Messrs. Smith, T~arragul; Irwin, Bloomfield; and Hill, Brandy Creek and NKeerim, have been returned unopposed, no other candidates having come forward; andwe must say that welare proud of the rtcpa~yers in our own particular riding who, notwith standing the scattered nature ofpor tioiis of the riding, and a certain want of community of interest, have shown that they ceim work together land make mutual concessions for the public good. NARRACAN. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 5 August 1880

NARR 'iCA\ (FROM OUR OW?, CORRESPONDENT.) The quiet of this locality will soon bebroken by a shire election:: lither to we have had no representative in the Council; heni? the reason.l why our wants havebeeon ignored; in proof of which it is sulfficient to state that the whole amount expended .in MeDonuld's Track; which is,' in fact, the mailn road of the Shire has been about £10-a large sum tiily when it is remembered that this is the only available road to a railway station during the winter months. While this important thoroughfare has been so'lieglected, scores of miles of new roalds have been opened, which, in their present state, itro useless dur a great part of the year. If only one third of the money thus expended had been spent on this track, one tlo rotughly good road to a r'hilway station would be available during the'whole year, and this would be a great conve nience to all parties,; while under but isting circumstances, those settlers west of the "Narracan post oflice o...

RAILWAY EXTENSION. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 12 August 1880

RAILWAY EXT0NSION. A large deputation from Gippsland, introduced by Messrs. McKean, Ma son, and McLean, M.'sL.A, waited on the Commissioner of Railways this morning, for the purpose of asking that a survey might be made of a line of railway from Traralgon to Bairns dale, a distance of about 75 miles in an E.N.E. direction. It was also asked that provision should be made for the construction of'the line out of the proposed loan of £2,000,000. It was pointed out that when Mr. Gillies held office in 1875, he had promised that a survey should be made, and during the last session of the last Par liament he had given instructions that ia survey party should start at the work. However, no survey party had started yet. The country through which the line would pass possessed some of the finest freestone in.the world, and about ten miles of country containing black fossiliferous marble. After. some conversation in which some sharp words were interchanged between Mr. McKean and Mr. Mc Leati, i...
