Alexandra Pastoral and Agricultural Association. ANNUAL SPRING SHOW. A DECIDED SUCCESS. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 20 November 1908

Alexandra Pastoral and Agricultural Association. ANNUAL SPRING SHOW. A DECIDED SUCCESS. The annual exhibition of the local agricultural society was held on Thqrsday week last, and being favored with "Queen's weather," the farming coma munity turned out in great style. The gate proceeds were not equal to last year, but it is satisfactory to know that the, members' list has improved this year. The entries were satisfactory, though not quite up to last year. The ring evepts were all well filled and keenly contibted, with the result that a greater interest appeared to be taken by the large con course of spectators, both around the ground and. in the grand stand. One thing was badly wanted and that was a good band .to break the "monotony. Bye-the-bye, while we think about it: When the committee are next called together to prepare for the 1909 show, it is to be hoped that covered seating accommodation be arranged for those desiring a smoke and rest in the shade. Patrons would thereby be e...

Upper Goulburn Election. MINISTER OF LANDS RETURNED. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 20 November 1908

Upper Goulburn Election. MINISTER OF LANDS RETURNED. BY A LARGE MAJORITY. The result of the above election was a sur prise on Tuesday last, inasmuch as it was expected that it would he an easy thing for Mr M'lkenzie. The electors wee to the occasion and returned their old and tried member by an astonishing majority of 228. It is to be hoped, now the three Minis terial candidates have been sent back, that the reconstructed Ministry will soon show the country that itis nut the weakling supposed. State Politics will be keenly watched and it very short time will prove what matertal-iApossesses to carry on the business of the ? nntry. It is hard to say what little game is to be played by the pro. posed Liberal party and the Laborites. The result of the three elections just held show, unmistakably, that there is no desire to oust the Bent Ministry. The Labor Party have received what they were looking for anti the fact that Mr M'Leod lost his deposit of L50 gives sufficient warning that th...

gl;gxtltra & 4a 5tai ld NBC TEMERE .iEC TIMIDE. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 27, 1908 During the hearing of the sheep stealing case, on Wednesday, an unusual proceed ing, on the part of the police, was brought to light. The authorities have been particularly busy in this district for some considerable' tune' in connection with alleged sheep stealing.cases, and a very difficult task has been set the police to convict, or even' arrest. Plain.clothes Constable Sullivan, with the assistance of the local police, arrested a young man named Free, on thecharge of stealingonoe sheep. They were unable to secure a con viction. Constable Gunther during his evidence, stated that after accused was arrested he (Gunther) was instrncted by Constable O'Sullivan. to conceal himself underneath a table in the police office, at Alexandra. Opening of the Alexandra Bowling Green. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 27 November 1908

Opening of the Alexandra Bowling Green. The opening of the bowling, season took place, on Wednesday last, under most favorable circumstances. There was a large and fashionable attendance of ladies, which lent eclat to the proceed ings. The popular president of the club (Mr F. 'Wheeler, J.P.), led the way in his usual happy style, and once the open ing ceremony was dispensed with all went merrily. The Yea club returned the compliment by sending a first-class team and sedured a first-class victory. - Mr Wheeler said he felt proud in again welcoming the members of the Yea club at the Annual commence nt. His club, he said, that day was beset with mis fortune. In the first place he regretted to announce the inability to attend through indisposition of Mf W. Lade, J.P.,Presildent of the Shire. The green, too, was not, as hi would liked to have seen it ; it was not up to Yea form; asain, several players were unavoidably absent. At any rate, for these faults amends were made by the attendan...

Correspondence. [We do not hold onrselves responsible for the opinions expressed by our correspondents]. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD. SI?,-I crave a small space in your paper to bring under the notice of the health authorities the disgraceful state of affairs that has been going on for some time at the sanitary depot. 'A long drain is dug up the side of the hill and instead of the stuff being emptied at the bottom end and then covered up, It is emptied at the top end and then it" flows down and over the bottom end into a water hole' near'by and where the township stock drink, ant then when heavy rain comes bAck it goes through Alexandra to further pollute the township waterholes, Some of the councillors pass by nearly every week, but they must look the other way and held their noses.-Yours, etc..
