Sydney Wool Sales [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express — 11 December 1925

Syskey Wool Sales The Secretary of the Farmers and Graziers' Co-operative Co. reports: — The catalogue submitted at our last sale, while representative of practi cally all woolgrowing districts in the State, comprised for the most part an average selection of wools, most of which carried more or less dust. There were a few attractive clips from the Barraba and Upper Hunter districts, which opened up showing well-grown staple, fine quality and lightness in condition. Competition was general and fairly well sustained, but there was not the vim in the bidding that was a feature of the sales early in November. While the French buyers are still operating extensively, they ave not in the limelight to the same degree as they were. Their bidding is more restrained, and this no doubt is due to the disturbed conditions of the country politically. The other Continental sections con tinue their activity, and good support is forthcoming from Yorkshire and Japan. American competition has been kee...

MOTORING GREAT OPENING MEETING AT MAROUBRA SPEEDWAY. [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express — 11 December 1925

rnmrn GREAT OPENING MEETING AT MAROUBRA SPEEDWAY. Saturday last, December 5, was a rod 'letter day in the History of mo toring in Australia, for. then it was that' the newly completed Maroubra Speedway was tlie scene of an open ing meeting:, which was attended by a- vast throng of spectators, conserva tively estimated at seven thousand. Although we have before given brief descriptions of the speedway, we think it just a3 well again to traverse shortly some of the more important facts in connection with it; whilst we feel sure that no apology is needed for our devoting considerable space in these notes to a report of a motor race meeting which was the first of' its kind in Australia. The Maroubra Speedway is situated some seven miles from Sydney, and is laid down amongst scrub and turf-covered sand hills, which at the spot in question form a natural basin greatly helped the constructors in the formation of a track. The course itself is con strilcted on scientific lines, and takes the...

MOTOR CAR RUNS AMOK. [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express — 11 December 1925

MOTOR CAR RUNS AMOK. The danger of boys fiddling with the gears of a motor car was fully demonstratod at Adelong on Tuesday afternoon last at Harris' Motor Gar- age. A car belonging to Inder Singh had been put in the garage and the gears left in neutral. Some boys sat in the car later on, and must have left it in gear, and when the self starter was pressed later the car bounded through the double door, and carried away several posts of Mr. Mc Mullen's verandah before it brought itself to a stop at another post. Mr. and Mrs. McMullen had a narrow es- cape from being run over, as they were talking just outside of the gar- age as the car dashed through, and just managed to spring clear. For- tunately, the hood of the car was up, otherwise the occupant of the car would have stopped the weight of the door as it fell on the car. A certain amount of damage was done to the   hood and front of the car.

POLICE COURTS. TUMUT, TUESDAY DECEMBER 8. (Before Mr. E. H. Harrison, P.M.) [Newspaper Article] — Adelong and Tumut Express — 11 December 1925

POLICE COURTS. TUMUT, TUESDAY DECEMBER 8. (Before Mr. E. H. Harrison, P.M.) Daniel French, for whom Mr. N. B.     Mackenzie appeared, was charged with cutting timber on Crown lands without a license. Mr. W. A. de Beu- zeville, Chief Forester, prosecuted on behalf of the Forestry Department, and stated that defendant came to the local Forestry Office and applied for two cutters' licenses, stating that   they were to take effect from the next day. When the Forestry Officer went next day, he found that the men had been working two weeks. Defen- dant also said he would not take out a license for himself as a wood-carter until he was ready to draw the wood. It was found on enquiry that French had drawn two waggon loads of wood to the Tumut pumping-station prior to making application for the license. Fined £10, court costs 8/, in default one month hard labor. An order was made that the wood be ves- ted in the Tumut Municipal Council, which had paid F...
