ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE. (TO THE EDITOR OF THE "FREE PRESS." [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 14 September 1865

ORIGI'AL CORRESPONDENCE. (To THE EDITOI 0f THE '" PEr PREss.' When "Toleration" marched off to the office of your contemporary with the manu script of his extraordinary production, he no longer begrudged the week's labour and racking of brain it had cost him, but he has chuckled at the idea that his letter would completely paralyse if it did not annihilate your humble servant. Observe the finish he has put to his work, how smoothly it reads, he is apparently quite at home at that sort of thing ; with what freedom he throws in such big words as "EPITAPH," "TIRAIDS," C., how playfully he disregards all formal gram matical rules, and with what confidence he challenges me to answer him. He must have graduated at the Council Chambers, there is such a similarity in his style with that of one of our learned councillors. I have perused his letter carefully but cannot say that I thorougldy understand it. As however he is not himself averse to tak ing liberties-and I must say I never knew one...

SNAKES. [Newspaper Article] — Kilmore Free Press and Counties of Bourke and Dalhousie Advertiser — 14 September 1865

SNAKEs.--It would appear that snakes are beginning to put in an appearance rather early this season. On Sunday last as Mr. George Hamilton of this town and Mr. John Schuebirt, were walking in the bush, near the Boundary Flat, they saw a snake stretched at full length near a log, sunning itself; and on Mr. Hamilton proceeding to let it feel the force of the stick he carried in his hand, the reptile showed fight,. but was, however, quickly despatched. On being measured the snake was foundhto be four feet long; it was of the Carpet species. A NovFL FEar.-On the evening of Fri day last at seven o'clock, the renowned Young Sampson started to walk one hundred miles in twenty-four hours, the scene of action being between the Bull and Mouth hotel, Sydney-street, and the milepost beyond the Victoria hotel, Bylands, which ,feat he per tormed within the stated time. In addition to the walk he also got a set of horseshoes made on his chest by getting an anvil placed thereon and allowing men to ...
