MEET A HORRIBLE DEATH ; DIE MIDST BURNING OIL Fourteen to Twenty Persons Meet Death at Olean N . Y . by Explosion . ARE SEVERELY BURNED . Liquid rS ^ PPaured Upon Heads of Big Crowd , Which Gathered to Watch Fire . Olean , N . Y ., March 10 . —From 14 to 20 lives -were lost and fully twice that number of people were burned or bruised by an explosion of oil late Monday night , following a wreck on the Erie railroad , north of this city . Owing to the fact thatsomeof the bodies were incinerated in the fierce flames , or blown into the creek by the fierce explosion the exact number of dead v * ill probably not be known for several days . NOMINATION IS HELD UP used against her former husband . Mrs . Day was interviewed by The Courier last night regarding these statements . She said : I wish to enter a strong protest against the use of my name in the matter . I deny firmly having furnished the senate committee with any information whatever regarding the divorce decree obtained by me . You cannot make this denial too emphatic for me . I visited the courthouse yesterday morning to obtain a certified copy of my divorce decree , but I fail to see why this action should create talk in connection with the Washington case . There is nothing strange in the fact that I fact that I should desire to possess a copy of the decree . The divorce case was brought the March term of court in 1893A bill of complaint was filed but no evidence was taken as the case was not fought by the respondent . DEATH OF S . GOODRICH . Well Known Urbana Resident Died Tuesday Afternoon . Had Lived Here lor Many Years and Was Widely Known—Funeral Arrangements Not Completed . ¦ Solomon Goodrich died at his home at the corner of Race and Elm streets Tuesday afternoon at 1 : 30 o clock , after an illness extending over a period of over two years . Death was due to a complication of diseases . Though he had suffered greatly during the long illness , he was not compelled to take to his bed until two weeks ago , and his death comes as a great shock to his many friends . Mr . Goodrich was born in Georgia , Vermont ; and had he lived until June 27 of this year he would have been 78 years old . He enlisted in the army and served with honor through Che civil war .
