A Great Boar Goes to Wisconsin . Mr . W . D . Becker , Ft . Atkinson , Wis ., just informs us that he has purchased the great breeding boar , Akloro Premier 3 d . He has no pigs by this boar , as he just purchased him , but expects to have sows bred for fall farrow to this great sire . Mr . Becker is offering , in this issue , an excellent lot of pigs sired by Master Pointer , whom he says is a great boar for his age . These pigs are priced to sell , and as the high price of pork is bound to continue , breeders will do well to purchase some of these pigs or sows bred for fall farrow to Aldoro Premier 3 d . la writing Mr . Becker , kindly mention The Berkshire World .
The Breeder of Premier Francis . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
The Breeder of Premier Francis . Mr . J . T . Pollard , Fulton ., Mo ., has the honor of having bred the great Berkshire boar , Premier Francis , the sire of many good ones including the dam of Rival s Last . Mr . Pollard purchased Artful Premier 55555 when a pig , and retained him in his herd for a number of years . Artful Premier was mated with the best sows that Mr . Pollard could purchase and this mating resulted in the production of many of the best specimens of Berkshires that the breed has known . The Pollard herd is very rich in the blood of Artful Premier and at present he is using a son of the old boar out of a daughter of Baron Duke 40 th , one of the good sons of Lord Premier . The sows in the Pollard herd are mostly Duchess or Artful Belles and this line of breeding has produced such Berkshires as Lord Premier s Rival , Duchess 279 th , Rival s hampion , Rival s Last , Rival s Champion s Best , etc . Mr . Pollard is offering fifty Spring Pigs at bargain prices and our r...
Pabst Farm Still Making Sales . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
Pabst Farm Still Making Sales . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : — Notwithstanding the lateness of the selling season we have lately made several sales , among them the Percheron Stallions VilUers and Herfiarger arid the Percheron mare Devise with a handsome mare colt at her foot six weeks old . We also shipped two other stallions today , viz : The gray 3 year old Hauban and the black 6 year old Noe weighing close to 2100 pounds . This practically finishes our Spring sales , as we have now nothing left older than two year olds , outside of the stallions we are making the season with and which are not for sale until the end of July . Our brood mares are presenting us almost daily with young Percheron or Hackney colts and we can show as fine a lot of the latter breed by o ur great horse Sir Humphrey as can be found in America . This horse is proving himself to be an excellent sire ; his colts being exceedingly uniform and of extra fine type . They all show the bea...

Ball Bearing Throughout Every vital operating feature is Ball Bearing in the New Model LC . Smith 4 Bros . Typewritcr ( ALL THE WRITING ALWAYS IN SIGHT ) Ordinary friction bearings are cheaper to make , but not cheaper in the end . Ball bearings properly made , as we make them , cannot grind themselves loose like common friction bearings . They work smoothly , noiselessly , accurately , without play or lost motion , indefinitely . They can t wabble . Our ball-bearing carriage solves the problem of free-running combined with absolute rigidity . Our ball-bearing typebar segment permits a capital shift , the easiest known , yet thoroughly positive . Our Gardner ball-bearing typebar joint insures , with least resistance , the accurate imprint of the types , m their proper places , always . The ball bearings of the L . C . Smith & Bros . SHEFFIELD FARM BERKSHIRES HANDSOME LEE LONGFELLOW MASTERPIECE We are breeding a select lot of sows and gilts to the above boars for early Fall farrow , and shall offer them for sale as soon as safe . We shall be pleased to enter into correspondence with you at an early date regarding these sows and gilts , as we do not anticipate that they will be at all slow in selling . In the May number of The Berkshire World we called attention to the blood lines represented in the females we are offering . We feel much gratified in having received numerous congratulatory letters on the purchase of Handsome Lee . Many breeders are asking the privilege of breeding one or more select sows to this great boar , and while we would be only too glad to accommodate these breeders , we have a large number of our own to breed , and for that reason do not feel that we can accept any outside sows for service . We will , however , be pleased to price sows safe in pig to either of our herd boars at a figure w...
The Hog Market . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
The Hog Market . Values rule strong at the leading markets , and although fluctuations of appreciable range are noted from week to week , it is evident that a substantial foundation is solidly under the trade . A marked shortage of hogs in all the producing regions is clearly reflected in the trend of market events . A large percentage of recent receipts at Chicago were of superb quality , showing that growers have been holding them for higher prices , and greater weights . Heavy hogs are the rule . Packers have bare cellars and are on a hand-to-mouth basis . There is no surplus of pork in store . Hogs on the market one day are on the consumer s table the next . Until the new crop is available , the supply of hogs in the country will be far below the demands of the market . Sows that are now suckling pigs will early in the summer supplement the supply , as it Is obvious that farmers , in keeping them , have in view their later sale after they have farrowed a new crop of pork . Packe...

Hupp Farm Getting Ready [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910

A Chance for Eastern Breeders . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
A Chance for Eastern Breeders . It is not often that Berkshire breeders in the Bast have such an opportunity to buy high quality Berkshires as is presented at Seaconnet Farm , Little Compton , Rhode Island . This farm is advertising pigs by Maste . - - piece , Invincible Masteripece and Rivals Last , out of sows by Baron Duke 50 th , Invincible Masterpiece , Premier Duke , etc . We hope that Berkshire breeders • will make the best of this rare opportunity and not delay in writing Seaconnet Farm for prices and description of these splendid pigs . We have recently seen litters by Rival s Last and Invincible Masterpiece and consider them quite the equal of anything ever bred at Gregory Farm , White Hall , 111 . Masterpiece is so well known as a sire that any comment here would be superfluous and as Invincible Masterpiece and Rivals Last are quite the equal of Masterpiece , this statement should be sufficient to merit the attention of all Berkshire breeders . Do not forget to mention Th...
The Opinion of a Few of the Users of Sal-Vet . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
The Opinion of a Few of the Users of Sal-Vet . We had a bunch of lambs and sheep numbering 191 which were not doing well . They kept dieing right through the spring and summer , and it seemed nothing would save them . They would cough , run at the nose , scour considerably and finally die . They had fine new pasture and plenty of fresh , clean water . We commenced feeding them SalVet and have lost only four since . The rest commenced gaining at once , the scoruing and coughing stopped , and they were greatly improved in appearance . We finally shipped them to Chicago and got $ 2 . 50 per hundred more for them than they were worth when we commenced feeding Sal-Vet . ( Signed ) Cerwinske Bros ., Rockford , 111 . R . F . D . No . 1 . I have found Sal-Vet remarkable for the extermination of worms in pigs . It is easy and very convenient te feed . Hogs relish it and it is a fine conditioner , a safe and most reliable worm remedy . ( Signed ) Charles E . Ogs , Auburn , III . I have been f...
Demand Good . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 June 1910
Demand Good . OFallon , Mo . Editor Berkshire World : Who ever knew of such a great demand for Berkshires ? Our principal trouble is that we do not have enough of them . We are almost entirely sold out and will have to wait for our 1910 crop of pigs which we expect to be quite up-to-date . We are still using Baron Duke 89 th 91889 , largely because we find that he nicks well with the sows we have used him on . Some of the pigs will be by Master Climax 4 th , a son of Masterpiece Climax , one of Lovejoy s great boars . The winter here has been such as to prevent sows from taking as much exercise at times as we think is best , still we hope they will do well . While our herd is not large , we think we have some very choice brood sows . Some young sows that will have their first litters this year are extremely handsome . We value The Berkshire World very highly indeed and hope that it will continue to prosper . Very truly yours , W . A . Harris & Son .
