I .V && . THE WEEKLY BANNER. BY RANKIN & IXSJXt. iHunsuir, JSOT. iS, 1SSO. The Bastrop Advertiser takes up a whole page to publish the election returns which might have been put in tabular form in very little space. From the corrected returns of the vote of Galveston county it appears that Shepard received 3064 votes and Jones 1693, making Shepard's majority 1371 instead.of 1306 as first reported. The Nayasota Tablet is in hopes that Grimes and Madison counties have elected West morland, white, as representa tive. Up to Saturday last no returns had been received from Madison county. Congressman Wellborn, from the third" congressiol dis trict, ought to feel highly grati fied at .the fact that his majori ty is 33,000, the largest gained by any congressman in this country. Wellborn's opponent was a greenbacker. Senator M.iiONE,of Virginia, has lately become a conspicuous character politically. It is not definitely known whether he will vote with the democrats or republicans...

M,' JLCKI V DIHiTL IULHUI UHiinUlI. 1 BV RASKIN & X.EVIK. s CKUKS0AY, JtKllBV 6, 1850. Just before Christiias the newspapers of St Louis were crowded with advertising. The object of advertising is to attract attention and sell goods. If it pays the merchant to advertise in the holiday season, it ought to pay him all the year round. This is a specimen of what we can do in theway of logic A-- Richmond, Va., is quite an important manufacturing city. During the past year, 17,000 persons have found constant employment in the factories of that city, being an increase of 3000 over the number employed , 'the previous year. It will be y seen that the 17,000 persons employed in the factories is a sufficient to make a city larger than any now in Texas. The Fort Worth Democrat says the following is a pretty fair sample of the objections made to senator Maxey by those who believe the sun rises and sets in Throckmorton's cor pus. The Seguin Times says he is "lean, yellowhaired and ungainly in...

9kl3r -Banner Tko Farm KtII. The Dixie Farmer calls at tention to a most fruitful source of failure in the cultivation cf Southern plantations and farms. Uver-cropmg or planting more acres than" can be properly pre pared and cultivated, is a great evil in the South, and evidences. of it are to be met with in every I community in lexas. llictrue cause of all thisuntidincss about farms is, that farmers lay out more work than they can per form in the field, and hence, in an effort to catch up, their fen ces and -houses and stock arc neglected, and superficial culti vation results in poor crops, and less money and less content racntand enjoyment ofthc home than where work is measured out exactly by the ability of the farmer to perform it Says the Farmer: ."The great fundamen tal maxim of all true agriculture that production must be in pro portion to tillage, is cither not known or forgotten upon such farms, and in its stead is adopted the maxim that production is in proportion to the qu...
