Ames, who was elected by a large majority over a citisens nominee supported by the Dem ocrats and the Tribune newspaper Green the editor of the Tribune is "just over," has been in Minnesota about four months, and knows exactly what the people ot this State, and par- ticularly those of his own citf, need, politically, morally and religiously. Green is from Boston, and bolted Judge Ames' nomination because he laughed too much for a Major. An excellent reason Green, and yon ought to betwo proud of it. Down whore you hail from, a man is imprisoned for laughing. With us he is only sentenced to serve one term as Mayor—and he is never known to laugh agaiu. The President of tlfu road issued a o'ronlar on tho 2Gth ult., inviting sealed proposals for tho grading, masonry, bridging and ballasting of the line be tween the Dalles of St. Louis River aid the Bod River, a distance of about 230 miles. These proposals are to be received until June 1st, and tho work is to be done according to profiles ready lor inspection on yesterday, at the homo office in Now York. They are also ready to contract for the ties and iron, the latter to be delivered at the dook in Duluth or at the point where their road crosses the Mississip pi. Tho line of tho road has, undoubt- edly been determined, but as yet no one knows where, except thoso engaged therein. The distance indicated (230 miles) some 30 miles further than an air line would be, between the Dal les and Georgetown on tho Red River.
