Kovel Method of Building a Metal Vessel Ships That Would Virtually Be Without FramesChanged Deck Construction. A novel and interesting departure in ship construction has just been made by Mr. E. B. Griffiths, a warrant officer in the United States navy, now on duty at the navy yard, New York. Th scheme, according to the New York Herald, is a radical innovation upon conventional lines, the object in view being1 an increase in the capacity of the ship, a reduction of weight and of cost and improved buoyancy and strength. Looked at broadly, the ship has no transverse frames, but is built of plates of iron, steel or other material, rolled with a bulb, rib and rabbit on one edge the bulb, rib and rabbit receive the piano edge of the adjoining plate, and thus a continuous surface is formed for the outside of the vessel.
